BeePlanet drives sustainable storage in HYBPLANT, the R&D project integrating first- and second-life batteries into hybrid plants to generate green hydrogen.
The consortium formed by Nordex Energy Spain, Ingeteam, BeePlanet Factory, CENER (National Renewable Energy Centre), and the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) has successfully completed the strategic HYBPLANT project. This R&D initiative was funded by the Department of Industry, Ecological Transition, and Business Digitalisation of Navarra with a €1.29 million grant under the AERO challenge.
This project has developed innovative solutions for integrating and operating hybrid plants that combine wind and photovoltaic energy with storage through green hydrogen and both first- and second-life batteries.
📌Design of new grid-forming control systems for wind turbines.
📌Characterisation and validation of batteries for hybrid storage, optimising the combination of different chemistries.
📌Optimisation of power conversion system integration.
📌Improved renewable generation forecasting using advanced meteorological modelling techniques.
At BeePlanet, we have contributed our knowledge and experience in extending battery life, demonstrating the real potential of their second life and the possibilities of hybridisation with new batteries of different chemistries. This approach enables the incorporation of circular and sustainable storage in hybrid plants, enhancing the resilience and efficiency of the energy system, while reducing environmental impact and optimising the use of existing resources.
Furthermore, HYBPLANT has developed digital tools for intelligent management of hybrid assets, including predictive models and real-time simulations, facilitating decision-making and improving the operational performance of plants.
This project represents a decisive step towards a more flexible, intelligent, and decarbonised energy model.
