The challenge

A large logistics and industrial facility dedicated to paper and cardboard packaging, with high energy consumption associated with its production and logistics processes was already generating its own solar energy, but the real challenge laid elsewhere:

  • Wasted solar energy: without storage, surplus photovoltaic power that wasn't consumed immediately was lost or fed back into the grid
  • Unbacked demand peaks: periods of peak industrial activity required drawing from the grid during the most expensive rate periods
  • Lack of a system to autonomously decide when to charge and discharge

The solution

BeePlanet Factory designed, integrated, and operates a 455 kWh and 110 kW BESS system at the San Agustín de Guadalix plant, managed by BHive®, BeePlanet Factory's proprietary EMS.

BHive® acts as the brain of the installation: it analyzes consumption in real time, anticipates demand peaks and automatically decides when to charge and discharge the battery, without any intervention from the plant team.

The solar energy generated by the plant (201.8 kWp) that cannot be consumed immediately is stored and released when demand requires it.

The Results

Intelligent and autonomous management

BHive® monitors and decides in real time when to charge and discharge, without any intervention from the plant team

Self-consumption

Maximize the use of the 201.8 kWp solar array, reducing wasted surplus energy

Managing demand spikes

When the machinery starts up and consumption spikes, the battery injects power instantly. This prevents grid overload and smooths out the factory's demand curve.

Power savings and penalties

By covering peak consumption with the battery, you can safely reduce your contracted power capacity and eliminate penalties.
